1871-1980s
The Church that would later become the Bear Point FWB Church was founded in 1871 by a small group of believers as a community
church under the name Free Baptist. Sometime in the 1890's that was changed to Free Will Baptist. They met in the Bear Point School
until 1894 when a total of $20 was pledged to build the first church building. That original building was erected in 1896 approximately
where the current fellowship hall sits. Around 1940 a basement was added and the church continued to grow and proclaim the Gospel. In
1956 the parsonage was built for about $10,000. This parsonage is still in use and has housed numerous pastors, evangelists,
missionaries, etc. through the years. In 1961 the "New" church was built (and is still in use today), a beautiful auditorium that seats 210
with classrooms and a kitchen in the basement.
1980s to present
Rev. Larry C. Cook & his wife Linda came to minster here in the fall of 1983. It had been a dream in the heart of many since the new
auditorium had been built to add a fellowship hall and education wing. Carrying on that dream, under Bro. Larry's leadership construction
was completed on a 5500 sq. ft. addition that included offices, classrooms, kitchen, and fellowship hall in 1989. The church continued to
grow and many new opportunities were realized. In 1996 our youth program had grown to the point that we felt the Lord calling us to hire
a full-time Youth/Children's Pastor. After several young men tried out, the church unanimously voted to hire Rev. Bryant Harris from
Nashville, TN. This provided yet another boost to the church's growth. Bro Bryant was with us until September of 2007, when the Lord
called Him to the Rescue FWB Church in Ewing to serve as their Sr. Pastor. Difficult as it was, we sent him with our blessings knowing it
was the Lord's will for him and us.
We praise the Lord for the labors of all those who have gone before us and we pray that we will be as faithful for those who come after us.
